Leave the subject line blank, e.g., don't type anything there.
For subscribing to the suicide list, just send a command "subscribe
suicide
firstname lastname" to <listserv@maelstrom.stjohns.edu>, where you
replace
firstname by your real first name and lastname by your real last name.
For example, in your mailing program:
To: listserv@maelstrom.stjohns.edu
From: Your Name <your.mail@your.com>
Subject: [Leave this line blank]
subscribe suicide Olavi Noronen
The body contains only the above formulation, without other words or a dot at the end. If you write: "I want to subscribe suicide. Best wishes, Pam Andesson", your command will not be recognized, because the subscription is done automatically.
If your mailing program adds automatically your signature file to the end of the message body, cancel it in your subscribe message.
You will receive a confirmation of registration and some technical instructions.
To sign off the list SUICIDE send the command: signoff suicide
If you want to stay subscribed to a list but don't want to receive any mail for awhile, e.g., vacation. Send the following command: set suicide nomail
If you've returned and want to start getting mail again. The command is set suicide mail
If you want to get just one mail packet at the end of the day (because you're getting just too much mail). Send the following command: set suicide digest
If you want to find out who is on the list. Send the following command: review suicide
If you want to find out who is on the list by country. Same command except you now add the word country after the list name: review suicide country
If you want to check out the activity of the list by sender and total list activity. Send the following command: stat suicide
If you want to look at a list of all the files indexed since the beginning of a list. Send the following command: index suicide
If you want to receive a file explaining how to access the statistics and archives of the list. Send the following command: get suicide analysis
